The Pont d'Avignon at a glance
The Pont Saint-Bénézet, also called the Pont d'Avignon, belongs to the historic centre of Avignon, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1995 together with the Papal Palace and the episcopal ensemble. Of the 22 original arches, 4 are still standing. You visit a fragment that stops partway across the Rhône. It is not a footpath to the opposite bank of the Rhône.
Wine tourism calls Avignon the capital of the Côtes du Rhône, so the bridge makes a natural first stop before you head out to the vineyards. A single ticket costs €6 in 2026. The combined ticket with the Palais des Papes and its gardens costs €19.50.

Pont d'Avignon tickets 2026
Prices in euros for the bridge alone and for the combined ticket with the Palais des Papes and its gardens.
| Visitor | Bridge only | Bridge, palace and gardens |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | €6 | €19.50 |
| Reduced, with proof | €5 | €16 |
| Ages 10 to 17 | €4 | €12 |
| Under 10 | Free | – |
The reduced rate is not applied automatically. Bring proof of entitlement. The combined ticket is valid from the day of your visit until the next day, with one entry to each site. It does not give you repeat entries. Online booking is recommended, and the audioguide comes in 14 languages, with a commentary for children in French and English.
For most visitors the combined ticket is the better choice, because the palace is the bigger visit and the bridge fits into the same day. If you only want a look at the river and the arches, the single ticket is enough.
Opening hours
The bridge is open every day. These are the times of the 2026 calendar. The last entry is 30 minutes before closing.

How to plan your visit
Three things that shape the day.
Pair it with the palace
The bridge and the Palais des Papes share the same opening dates and hours, so the two fit into one day. The palace tour is being reworked from 1 May 2026 until spring 2027, with a new smartphone web app in 6 languages. Read the details on the Palais des Papes page before you buy.
Park outside the walls
Visitors are advised to park and walk in, or to use public transport. The park-and-ride lots at Italiens and Piot are free, each with a free shuttle (Piot goes to the Porte de l'Oulle). Around the walls and in the underground garages of the centre the height limit is 1.90 m. More options are on the getting there page.
Add the old town
The Rocher des Doms park has been open again since 28 February 2026 after its first restoration phase. Further work is planned until before summer 2027, so expect some building sites. Walks along the ramparts and through the old centre are covered in things to do in Avignon.
A short history of the bridge
The bridge is part of the ensemble that UNESCO inscribed as the Historic Centre of Avignon: Papal Palace, Episcopal Ensemble and Avignon Bridge. It stands in the city where the popes lived from 1309, when Clement V arrived, until early 1377, when Gregory XI returned to Rome. Not every pope stayed the whole time. Urban V lived in Rome from 1367 to 1370.
Today only a short stretch remains, which is why the visit is brief and works well as a stop between the palace and a lunch in the old town. The full story of the popes and of its link to Rhône wine is on our history page.
